Abstract
Hydronephrosis in children, which is a common urologic disorder, may be secondary to a number of abnormalities of the urinary tract and may cause continued deterioration of renal function and occasionally lethal.
However the clinical manifestations of urinary tract obstruction in children are diverse and indistinct.

So the diagnosis is delayed and the careful selection of patients and proper choice of managements are considerably difficult.

We studied the clinical records on 35 cases of hydronephrosis in children who had been admitted to the Department of Urology, Ewha Woman`s University Hospital during recent 7 years from August, l978 to July, l985.

The following results were obtained;

The male and female ratio was 2.7:1.

The affected side was right in 11 cases (3l.4%), left in l3 cases (37.2%) and bilateral in 11 cases (31. 4%).

In urinalysis, pyuria was found in 26 cases (7l.4%) end E. Coli was the most common causative organism.

In etiology, 25 cases(7l.4%) were caused by congenital origins, among which vesico-ureteral reflux was the most common in 11 cases.
